A Shock at The British Open
Seed defeated
Well, there have been mutterings about Jamie Stout for a long time, all these mutterings have been “he is really good” “he just plays the game so naturally” “How good is he?”. Today at the British Open he showed the world no 4 Ruaraidh Gunn his potential in defeating Ruaraidh 6/5 6/3 6/2.
Is Jamie going to achieve what James Male never succeeded in? Being the World Rackets and Tennis World Champion at the same time? The odds now must be shortening rapidly!
Talking of James Male, I watched his doubles match yesterday. He was playing with Mike Happell and they were up against the qualifiers Alastair Lumsden and David Harms. It was a demolition job by Lumsden and Harms and they won 6/0 6/1 6/2. Happell was definitely ‘out of sorts’ and miserable with himself; Lumsden and Harms are an established partnership and this really showed. It was a great win for this pair and they now face the number 1 seeds of Fahey and Gunn.
Returning to the defeat of Gunn; this now puts the World Race into a real race, as much now hinges on where Sayers and Wood finish in the Singles, and the race positions are at this moment in time ‘up in the air’.
