The Browning Cup 2009
The Result
The Browning Cup was successfully concluded yesterday with Manchester's Craig Greenhalgh defeating Charlie Packham in two sets.
The score was 6/3 6/2. The first six games were very tight with Charlie receiving a handicap of owe 1/2 15, but Craig had a strategy; go for everything, don't push it back and attack. I had seen Craig play in the final of our Satellite tournament in Manchester and if he had been able to play as he did at Holyport there is every chance that he would have won that title too. Hopefully, with the success of being not only a recent finalist but now a winner, this will give Craig the incentive to more success in up-coming tournaments.
Charlie Packham had a great tournament run, having hardly played any tennis in the past two years, perhaps this will also trigger Charlie to playing some serious tennis in the future. Charlie is now an unattached professional. Is there a Club who will give him court time to enable the necessary practice?
Holyport Grange held a Pro Am during the day prior to the finals of the Browning Cup. The finalists were Ben Matthews and Tim Collins versus Ged Eden and Robert Falkner
The winners were Ged Eden and Robert Falkner
