Rob Fahey wins last major event
The US Pro Singles playing for The Schochet Cup saw the World Champion in no mood for hanging around at Newport yesterday as he defeated Steve Virgona in 3 sets 6/2 6/3 6/2. Rob Fahey has now held this title since 2003 having first won the title in 2001 with a ‘blip’ in 2002 when he was defeated by Tim Chisholm.
For both the players their respective semi-finals were ‘tougher’ with Fahey losing a set to Bryn Sayers and with Vigona winning 6/5 in the fifth set against Camden Riviere.
The tennis season with events holding world ranking points is now over for the summer and commences again in September. The events in the new season will be hard fought as the Race for the right to Challenge Rob Fahey in Melbourne next May closes at the end of the year; there will be some very exciting matches in store as players jostle for the right to enter the eliminators.
