Andrew learnt to play at the Ballarat Tennis Club at the age of 14 under coach Mike Edwards. Having played lawn tennis to a regional standard as a junior Andrew took to the game well and became club champion in Ballarat and Melbourne. In 1999 he turned professional and began at the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club. Andrew spent four years in Melbourne under the guidance of Barry Toates and began to develop his game. At the start of 2003 he moved to Hatfield House as Jon Dawes assistant. Andrew is worked very hard on his game while there and his results showed considerable improvement. In the summer of 2005 Andrew moved to New York to work with Mike Gooding's team at The Racquet & Tennis Club
