FLM Super League – Day 3

Published on: Apr 12, 2024

How could the event have more excitement then yesterday’s match of Williams -v- Gordon?

You have to factor in competitiveness for certain and this factor involved Williams again tonight.

We knew that Shenkman’s Henchmen would be in the final but who would the opposition be and it was mathematically possible for all teams to achieve this.

  • Fahey’s Forcers had to win all three matches and with this the bonus point available.
  • Matthews’ Mavericks had to defeat Fahey’s Forcers.
  • Sayer’s Slayers had to hope hope Fahey’s Forcers did not win all the matches but the Forcers defeated the Mavericks

The first match up saw Forcer’s Mrs Fahey up against Maverick’s Gale.  This was won by Maverick Gale.  We now knew that Fahey’s Forcers would not be a finalist, but they could still spoil the party for Sayer’s Slayers or Matthews’ Mavericks.

The second match was Chief Honcho Maverick, Ben Taylor-Matthews playing with Zak Eadle against the GOAT Rob Fahey playing with Bertie Vallat.  It looked as if the Mavericks were going to win when the score was 7-4 in their favour, but Vallat was only just getting into his stride here, 7-5, then the Mavericks were at 8-5.  They only need that one elusive game to win and get to the finals. The Forcers won the match though 9-8 and it was simply brilliant, raw excitement and slight disbelief this was happening.

Below is the match while the score stands at 8-5.

The final match of the round robin matches saw Forcers Williams v Mavericks Trueman.  Forcer Williams knew even by winning his team would not be in the finals and for Maverick’s Trueman he knew he had to win for his team to be the finalists.  Well it was just so exciting and this match could not have been closer.  Williams just was not going to capitulate and even with Trueman 7-4 up, there was no let up from Williams.  The match saw competitiveness at its very best, the result was down to the last game.

The recording below starts at Truman 7-5 up.

Our congratulations go to Nino Merola for coming first  in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) slot.  He won’t be receiving a cheque at the presentation but he will be financially rewarded on Monday! 🙂

The finals tomorrow start at 12:00 between Shenkman’s Henchmen and Sayers’ Slayers and the order of play is:

Shenkman’s Henchmen
