Jesmond Dene – Head Professional Required

HEAD REAL TENNIS PROFESSIONAL

FOR JESMOND DENE REAL TENNIS CLUB, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

The position of Head Professional has become available at Jesmond Dene Real Tennis Club.

The Court is situated in an attractive suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, 2 ½ miles from the City Centre, with good schools and excellent rail, air and road links.  It has an excellent catchment area of people who work or live nearby and several large Universities in the region.

The Club, which is a registered charity, recently secured its future by the acquisition of the freehold of the property, including the professional’s house, and has undertaken significant improvements.  After a short period without a professional, the last couple of years have seen an upturn in the number of members and court hours.  The Club is in the strongest position yet to exploit its fantastic potential and we require a Head Professional to continue this growth.

Ideally we are looking for someone who is already working as a head professional or senior assistant, who is able to work with the tennis committee to develop the Club’s membership, court usage and playing standards.

The head professional at Jesmond Dene will be expected to concentrate on the tennis side of the club and work with the tennis committee on other aspects of the running and management of the court.  Responsibilities will include promoting the Club, coaching, racquet repairs, ball making, helping to grow membership and encouraging playing.

The committee proposes a basic package, self-employed income (coaching, repairs and retail sales), accommodation in the professional’s house and an incentive package based on new members and court usage.

We are looking for key attributes such as strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.  Enthusiasm and a flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends, are important as well as a willingness to learn and develop skills.

Please send any expressions of interest and a CV to the chair of the tennis committee, Richard MacAlister, by email  by 25thOctober.  Interviews for the role will take place during the first week of November 2019.  Please indicate your availability.
