The World Challenge – New Information

Published on: Jun 7, 2013

When arranging this special event, it is really helpful for the host club to know, as early as possible, how many visitors from overseas are planning to attend.  So, even if you are only “thinking on it” or “Yes, I  definitely want to attend” please would you just send me an email indicating your plans.  By doing this it will also enable an email to be sent to you when the application forms are available.

Below is a synopsis of the planned events for the week.

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2014
Challenge Dates:  6th, 8th and 10th May

The Royal Melbourne Tennis Club looks forward to welcoming tennis players from around the world in 2014 when Robert Fahey defends his World Championship title.
The match will be played over the best of thirteen sets, on Tuesday 6th, Thursday 8th and Saturday 10th May.  Play on the first two days will be in the evening and in the afternoon on Day 3.
For visitors, there will be a Handicap Doubles and a Pro Am Doubles. Additionally, RMTC will shortly be inviting every club in the world to send a young player, as this will be a world championship to celebrate and promote tennis for the next generation.  There will also be a tournament exclusively for our younger guests.  With two courts, we will offer tennis to all visitors.

Off court, there will be Opening Reception on Monday 5 May, a mid tournament dinner on Wed 7 May and a final World Championship Dinner on Sat 10 May.  Additionally, there will be optional opportunities to play golf, enjoy wine tasting in the Yarra Valley and see some Aussie Rules football.

As always, Melbourne will offer billets for visitors.  For those who prefer to make their own arrangements, the club is located very close to the CBD, with easy access to a wide range of hotels to suit all budgets.  We recommend early booking.  We are happy to assist people with recommendations to suit.

RMTC has excellent viewing capacity; however, early booking will be essential.  We expect registration forms will be posted online and sent to all clubs by November.
