WDC – Semi Finals – 1st 4 Sets

Published on: Apr 25, 2024

Wednesday 24th April through to Sunday 28th April
The Racquet Club of Chicago

First up yesterday were the 2nd and 3rd seed pairs – Rob Fahey and Nicky Howell versus John Lumley and Steve Virgona.  It would be interesting to know whether this was the longest ever 4 set match, it took some 3 hours 40 mins +/- to complete.  Virgona and Lumley came out on top winning 3 of the 4 sets.  Set scores were 6/4 5/6 6/4 6/1.  It was mesmerising tennis and can be seen on the  USCTA YouTube Channel

The second semi-final had the defending world champions Tim Chisholm and Camden Riviere playing the number 4 seeded pair of Ben Taylor-Matthews and Bryn Sayers.  Some great tennis to be watched on the USCTA’s media channel.  Chisholm and Riviere won 3 of the 4 set.  Set scores 6/1 6/1 4/6 6/2.

There are two markers for the event, Neil Mackenzie from the Queen’s Club and Robbie Whitehouse from the Racquet Club of Philadelphia.  The lead commentator is Connor Medlow, great insights and maybe a career in sports commentary beckons!?  Robbie Whitehouse, Colin Lumley and other guest commentators made the 1st day of this World Championship memorable.
